Will MTDC be a success?

MTDC, Maldives Tourism Development Company is on its way to get quoted on Maldives share holders. The company claims that it will pay the share holders with high returns and the share holders will be able to cover their investments within 5 years. I believe that if the company is well managed, it may become one of the success stories in Maldivian economy. However there are many concerns about the public like some rich guys getting big shares and the company going against the company act. what do you think about the company? will it be beneficial for the conomy? will they be pay back high dividends for the investment? are there any risks involved in the investment? if so what do you think are the risks?

MTDC is a company with bright prospects ahead.

On the positive side, it will increase the public awareness of trade of stocks or bonds and hence will support the establishment of a stronger stock exchange in the country. It will give ordinary Maldivians a chance to participate in the most flourishing and most important industry in the Maldives. It will also pave a way for more equal (not perfect) income distribution in the country.

BUT if it is going in the direction as some people describe as "the Dracula being in charge of a blood bank", it will be far from achieving its' objective. The objective of MTDC is, in my opinion, to make it enable for all Maldivians to participate in the tourism industry. For this to happen, business tycoons in the Maldives needs to be more ethical and socially responsible.

MTDC is going to be a successful company. There is too much space in the industry for MTDC to fly high.

With the tourism industry and stock market growing rapidly, it is an almost risk free investment although there are risks involved in any investment. There will be risks but there are solutions.

The Maldivian community has a high degree of uncertainty avoidance and this needs to be reduced for people to invest more and seek for opportunities. The Maldivians need learn to take risks and hence multiply their wealth.
